Our People

Daniel Hume

Born in Suffolk, England, Daniel is a naturalist, wilderness guide and author. Dedicated to those who come to learn from him, the past twenty years have seen Daniel travel the world many times over, through many different environments, often alongside indigenous people and other highly experienced outdoors men and women.

He is former chief-instructor and head of operations at Ray Mears’ company Woodlore, and the youngest recipient of the renowned antler-handled instructor knife which he received at the age of 20. Serving from 2006 to 2017, he instructed civilians, the armed forces and the police in bushcraft and survival skills as well as regularly assisting Ray Mears in guiding guests to many of the world’s remotest wildernesses. As head of operations, Daniel’s approachable leadership style was key in the recruitment and management of the instructional team and his ability to innovate was crucial in the development of many of the company’s courses and expeditions. He resigned in 2017 as one of the most experienced and longest serving instructors the company has seen.

In 2017 Penguin Random House published his first book entitled ‘The Art Of Fire” which has since been published worldwide. This was the culmination of a life-long pursuit to learn, master and document all the ways of making fire - both ancient and modern.

He now brings his wealth of knowledge and experience to everything he offers to Endeavour guests and loves nothing more than sharing his passion for the natural world with others and seeing them grow.

In 2018 he founded Endeavour. Together he says, we can change the world for the better. As Confucius said, “The man who moves a mountain begins by carrying away small stones.”

Daniel would love to hear from you if you have any queries and when he is not on expedition will reply as quickly as possible. He can be contacted here: dan@danhume.com
